USAGKA 2008 Seminar 2

We held our last seminar in Tampa on June 14. Sensei Chambers covered various topics. They included warm ups using your belt, self defense with the belt, Nunchaku striking methods, and Tonfa training. We had a great time. Destroying apples with the Nunchaku gave everyone a thrill and showed the power and devastation of the weapon!

Kicks For Kids Seminar

The USAGKA Riverview Dojo hosted a seminar which focuses on teaching children karate. Although many of us have taught children for many years sometimes we may not know how to deal with certain issues. Sensei Michelle Darbro (USAGF) teaches children every day and understands most of the issues we face as instructors. The seminar was for dan and kyu adults who have a interest in helping teach kids karate. The more you know about teaching children the more effective you will be at the task. The seminar was held October 28, 2006 and was a great success!

Seminar 3 at the Riverview Dojo

Seminar 3 group above. For those who missed it, we covered several jujitsu come along holds in detail. We covered real world applications, variations, and many "what if" scenarios. In the second half of the day we studied stick fighting. The fighting methods were contrasted to usage of the night stick and short bo or jo. Blocks, strikes, and come along techniques were all practiced. We worked on our traditional pizza waza as well!
