Upcoming events

We have two events coming up one right after the other to jump start the new year! The annual Koreshan Park workout (USAGF & USAGKA) and our first USAGKA seminar for 2008. Please try to attend both events!

Here's some historical pictures for your enjoyment

Now, have you figured out who's who above?

Let's start with the top picture. Look closely at the very left side. That's Sensei Smyth. Fighting is Mike Levell (Orlando) and Frank Cimino (Palm Bay). To the right is Master Liquori. Circa 1986.

The next picture is of Sensei Larry Mabson who besides being an outstanding martial artist, few people know he flips a mean hot dog! Circa 1986.

Standing in front of the flag is Sensei Smyth's Sensei! This is Sensei Ken Batts as a Shodan. Circa 1972.

* Pictures were compliments of Sensei Tom Smyth should not be copied without his permission *

December 2007 Seminar
During the seminar we focused on Ju Jiyu Kumite training. We worked on blocking and diverting an incoming attack. We learned to utilize sheiko dachi. The event was held outside and turned out great. It was a beautiful day as you can see below.

Our mission for the USA Goju Karate Do Association (USAGKA) is to provide quality training for anyone who is willing to work hard. USAGKA is committed to three important rules of the karate dojo as expressed by Grand Master Peter Urban.  These rules are: 1. Everyone Works  2. Nothing is free 3. All start at the bottom.

For those who may not be familiar with our style, the term "Goju" in Japanese literally means Hard and Soft.  Therefore our style includes both hard and soft techniques. For example, strikes and blocks include the closed fist and the open hand methods.  However, Goju represents more than physical aspects such as the concept of opposites.  If this has stimulated your curiosity then you should contact your local Goju karate dojo. Check out the links page for more information.

If you are in our area then feel welcome to visit one of our dojo's. We have schools in Palm Bay, Riverview and Gibsonton, Florida. If not, there may be similar schools in your area. Look for styles such as:  USA Goju, Okinawan Goju-ryu, or Japanese Goju-ryu. Try one of the search engines on the web for more information.
